Portraiture by its very nature is an intimate experience.

When I create a portrait, I always try to be aware of the almost seamless link we have with our past or future, our hopes, joys or sorrows.

Preoccupied as we often are, perhaps from very different backgrounds, there is always a human connection.

It is that individual passion and character I hope to portray.

I may see the love of a parent for their child

I may be attracted to the mellow light and shade creating seamless edges ... drifting in and out of focus.

Or perhaps the eclectic mix of music, textures or colours may be the inspiration.

Although each portrait essentially begins the same way ... with discussion, planning, sketching, watercolour washes ... ultimately the creation of each portrait is an individual experience.

Often for me, as an Artist, the experience is cathartic … essentially we grow from the experience.
